This year’s conference theme is Relativism.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Anyone can attend: Register here at the conference website!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n [toggle title=”9:00 am Welcome”] Opening remarks by Roberta Israeloff and Dr. Sean Riley, followed by a short video and ice-breaker discussion with students from other schools. [\/toggle]<\/p>\n [toggle title=”10:00 am Keynote Address”] Dr. O’Hara will discuss the appeal of relativism and then offer some arguments against it as a moral theory. After his address, he will take questions from the audience.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dr.David<\/span>\u00a0O<\/span>‘Hara<\/span>\u00a0is Associate Professor of Classics and Philosophy at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He teaches ancient philosophy,\u00a0American philosophy, environmental ethics, Asian philosophy, and philosophy of religion.\u00a0 He has taught classics in Greece, environmental ethics in Alaska, and tropical rainforest and reef ecology in Belize and Guatemala. A lover of language and of travel, he has learned over a dozen ancient and modern languages.\u00a0He has written books on fantasy literature, trout fishing, ecology, and philosophy.\u00a0Dr.\u00a0O<\/span>‘Hara<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0a graduate of Middlebury College (B.A.,\u00a0Spanish), St John’s College (M.A., Liberal Arts), and\u00a0The Pennsylvania State University (M.A., Ph.D., Philosophy).\u00a0In addition to a talk by Dr.\u00a0O<\/span>‘Hara<\/span>, the conference will also include breakout sessions, student presentations, and lunch discussions.<\/p>\n [\/toggle]<\/p>\n [toggle title=”11:00 am Meet & Greet”] Conference attendees will take some time to get to know the keynote speaker, the other philosophers in attendance, and students from other schools. Conference attendees will participate in a conversation about a philosophical topic of their choosing over lunch.
