This month, Chicago Public high school teacher (and PLATO board member), Steve Goldberg will be running a teaching workshop at the University of Chicago’s campus.
\nIn collaboration with the UChicago Civic Knowledge Project: The Winning Words Initiative:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization (PLATO) claims that the \u201creasons most often given for engaging young children in philosophy have to do with strengthening their cognitive and communicative skills, and introducing them to formative ethical and political ideas.\u201d But these \u201cvaluable objectives\u2026all derive from a more primary reason to do philosophy with young children: that it is meaningful for them.\u201d The same point applies to high school students, and this workshop will demonstrate just how meaningful philosophy in high school can be, making the case for why such precollegiate philosophy is important and how it is best done.<\/p>\n

\nInstructor:<\/strong> Mr. Goldberg, PhD, DePaul University, has over 20 years of experience teaching history and philosophy at Oak Park and River Forest High School and has become a recognized leader in the precollegiate philosophy movement with the American Philosophical Association.<\/p>\n
