{"id":14283,"date":"2016-10-12T16:19:48","date_gmt":"2016-10-12T20:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/nwcenter\/?post_type=questionslibrary&#038;p=2406"},"modified":"2025-02-14T14:36:41","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T22:36:41","slug":"story-jumping-mouse","status":"publish","type":"questionslibrary","link":"https:\/\/plato-philosophy.org\/questionslibrary\/story-jumping-mouse\/","title":{"rendered":"Story of Jumping Mouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is worth persisting at?&nbsp; Especially without knowing what to expect?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to come out of something, why keep at it?&nbsp; For example, doing the chores (they are usually for cleaning, but do you get rewarded?), or going to school, or walking a long distance.<\/li>\n<li>Do good things always have to come with consequences?<br \/>\nDo you always have to sacrifice to be happy?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>No one else seemed to share the mouse&#8217;<\/strong><strong>s dream.&nbsp; Why not, and why did he still want and&nbsp;<\/strong><em>have<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>to go?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why did the mouse want to go to the far-off land?&nbsp; Especially when so many others didn\u2019t seem to want to go there?<\/li>\n<li>But he knew he&nbsp;<strong><em>had<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;to go.&nbsp; Why did he&nbsp;<em>have&nbsp;<\/em>to go?<\/li>\n<li>Did he really have to go?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is it worth?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you have dreams, or things you want to be when you grow up?<\/li>\n<li>Will you do anything to reach them?&nbsp; Would you forgo other valuable things like sight and smell, or certain hobbies?&nbsp; The mouse also left his family.<\/li>\n<li>What would make it worth it?&nbsp; What if something else comes along?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why do we trust and depend on others, and what are the&nbsp;risks?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why did the mouse have such trust in these other animals?&nbsp; Should he have?&nbsp; Could he have made it without them?<\/li>\n<li>What kinds of risk do we have to take?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s a situation that makes you nervous?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Was the mouse&#8217;s&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>final destination worth it?&nbsp; Or was the journey&nbsp;the valuable part? &nbsp;From which did he gain more?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is being an eagle better than a mouse?&nbsp; Did the mouse gain something by becoming an eagle?&nbsp; Or lose something?<\/li>\n<li><em>He was a pretty good mouse to start with.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Did he gain something during his travel, or just lose things?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When do you accept what you have and where you are?&nbsp; Do you always have to be \u201cmoving up\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Should the mouse have accepted his life the way it was?<\/li>\n<li>Eagles kill mice, so is becoming an eagle a symbol of the mouse \u201cmoving up\u201d in the world?&nbsp; And is this always a good thing?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Contributed by Allie Clay<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2407,"template":"","dqcategories":[378],"class_list":["post-14283","questionslibrary","type-questionslibrary","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","dqcategories-social-and-political-philosophy"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Story of Jumping Mouse - PLATO<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"noindex, follow\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Story of Jumping Mouse - PLATO\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"What is worth persisting at?&nbsp; Especially without knowing what to expect?
