What is around you?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reflect on this activity by reminding them that there are many different ways to answer the question &#8220;Where are you?&#8221;. Ask them what their most specific response is and what their least specific response is.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples of different ways to answer the question to get kids looking at it from different perspectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On Main Street<\/li>\n<li>In the United States<\/li>\n<li>Down the street from Northwestern<\/li>\n<li>In a yellow house<\/li>\n<li>A few minutes from the beach<\/li>\n<li>On the east side of the train tracks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Google Earth Activity:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Help students get to earth.google.com and click the \u201cLaunch Earth\u201d button.<\/p>\n<p>Explore!<\/p>\n<p>Move around! Find somewhere random and zoom in. Drag and drop the little person icon to look at the street view. What do you see? Are there people around? Roads, houses, nature?<\/p>\n<p>Zoom back in and try this again! See how many different environments you can find!<\/p>\n<p>Getting more specific<\/p>\n<p>Next we are going to try to find different things on Google Earth! If you want, try to see how many countries you can go to while exploring!<\/p>\n<p>Try to find the items on this list:<\/p>\n<p>Animal<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Person<\/li>\n<li>Beach<\/li>\n<li>Forest<\/li>\n<li>Mountain<\/li>\n<li>Road<\/li>\n<li>Building<\/li>\n<li>Snow<\/li>\n<li>Island<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Extra Challenge:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boat<\/li>\n<li>Volcano<\/li>\n<li>Airplane<\/li>\n<li>Billboard<\/li>\n<li>Car<\/li>\n<li>Cow<\/li>\n<li>Something you\u2019ve never seen before<\/li>\n<li>Something you see everyday<\/li>\n<li>Somewhere new<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Google Maps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Go to maps.google.com<\/p>\n<p>Look up some of the places you traveled to on your google earth adventure.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the difference between looking at a location on a map and looking at an image of a place?<\/li>\n<li>Which gave you more information about where you are?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Google Earth or Google Maps<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Which website made you feel more like you were actually in that location?<\/li>\n<li>Which website gave you more information about how to get to the location?<\/li>\n<li>Which website gave you more information about what is around you?<\/li>\n<li>Which website best represents the real world?<\/li>\n<li>Think about it: Would you describe your location differently for each of these resources?<\/li>\n<li>What can you know about a location from looking at it on the map?<\/li>\n<li>What can you know about a location from looking at it on Google Earth?<\/li>\n<li>What is important to know about a location?
