This group of students is in a public elementary school classroom in a rural area of Washington State — very mixed in terms of economic situations. I agree that it is easier for some individual children to discuss topics like this more easily than others, but I have found that most elementary school classes (especially, in my view, third grade and up) are quite capable of and interested in such discussions.

Neat. I am a philosophy graduate student at Georgia State University, and this is facinating stuff.

I am curious about the group of students you are working with. How they were selected, are you in a random elementary school classroom? What part of Seattle? I suspect it is easier for some children to discuss topics like this more than others
